Zahra Marwan childhood was split between two deserts—that of Kuwait and the American Southwest—which vary drastically yet have many cultural similarities. The former borders the sea and the latter is surrounded by mountains. Zahra's work playfully reflects on the landscapes, cultural themes, and ancestral memories which have shaped her life. Through subtle color, palpable movement, and intimate figurative interaction, her illustrations incorporate both her Kuwaiti tendencies and New Mexican lifestyle.
