Meryem Meg is a London-based painter and designer. Her work focuses on themes of repetition, remembrance, and ancestral memory. Her methodical linework, bold use of color, and utilization of space act as nods to the prehistoric while also appearing to be somewhat futuristic. This congruence of past, present, and future weaves a narrative of Meryem's contemporary identity—an identity which is not entirely individual, but instead builds upon the experiences of those who came before.
Of Cosmik Series Cont., Meryem explains: "The works look at exploring the relationship between Dhikr, astronomy, and the cycles within the human body. The symbolism used is a mixture between Algerian and Bulgarian symbology—combining my contemporary impulses accentuated through recurrent nods to K-pop. The process is used as a vessel to heal and be reminded of the Creator of all creation. They are playful variations of ghetto nostalgia informed by a diasporic experience."
Meryem has exhibited extensively throughout the United Kingdom, the United States, and the United Arab Emirates. Her work has been featured in publications including Vogue Arabia, Majestic Disorder, ASOS, and It's Nice That. Meryem has a Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design from Leeds College of Art and a Master's in Fine Arts from University of the Arts London.
